Apprenticeships

Is an Apprenticeship for you?

Apprenticeships allow you to gain new skills and get paid at the same time. They offer high quality work-based training for young people who want to develop their prospects and career options.

As an Apprentice you will:

  • Earn real wages
  • Gain new qualifications
  • Gain new knowledge

How Apprenticeships work

Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 who is employed, and provide the opportunity to learn through the combination of on and off the job education and training, usually attending College on a day release basis. Tuition is funded by the Government for Apprentices aged 16-18 years. For Apprentices aged 19 and over a portion of the fee is paid by the employer.

There are two levels of Apprenticeship available:

Foundation Apprenticeship
Over a period of one to two years you will normally study a theoretical qualification at Level 2 along with Key or Functional Skills one day a week at College. In the workplace you will study to NVQ Level 2.

Advanced Apprenticeship
Over a period of one to two years you will normally study a theoretical qualification at Level 3 along with Key or Functional Skills one day a week at College. In the workplace you will study to NVQ Level 3.
