The Art and Media Department is a thriving and vibrant area which has a wide range of courses to offer at all levels. Currently set in a dedicated building containing graphic design, fashion, photography, a TV studio, art studios and creative craft technical studios – the department is well resourced to offer this wide curriculum.
The lecturers delivering the courses have a good range of vocational and academic experience with links to the industry growing constantly. The end of year show in June/ July is a celebration of all students' work and when we turn the building into a huge exhibition space. Many of the students progress onto Higher Education Courses both here and other well respected Universities.
Our intention in Art and Media is to help students develop their creativity and enjoy a rich cultural experience.
Art and Design and its related industries offer some of the country's most vibrant and exciting areas for career opportunities with major employers.
Our Art and Design provision is strong and well resourced with excellent facilities and a creative and inspiring environment. Projects undertaken by students include many opportunities to work on live assignments with clients, practising artists and designers. Our own successful summer exhibition gives students a genuine experience of showcasing their artwork to the public. Our students are very successful in gaining entry to a variety of Higher Education courses and our practical approach to teaching and the level of support students receive prepares them for this progression.

BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design
Why?
It includes my favourite subjects - photography and lay-out as a key part of the course.
What is the best part of studying at West Kent College?
We really are treated like adults and respected by our course tutors.
Would you recommend West Kent College to friends?
Yes – I really feel like I want to go in everyday rather than doing it because I have to.
What ambitions will your course help you to fulfil?
I would like to be a page layout designer for a national magazine.
Do you have any other hobbies or interests?
I’m a bit of a sci-fi buff and Star Wars fan.
