Schools
West Kent College has been working in partnership with schools since 2002 and are able to offer 14-16 year olds a wide range of opportunities that will improve their knowledge and skills to help them find work in their chosen area. Students under 16 who would like to attend College must be referred to by their school; direct applications will not be accepted.
The training courses enable students to study a work-related subject that may not otherwise be available at school, using workshops and other specialist facilities. They will be taught by college lecturers with all the specialist equipment provided, and successful students will gain a qualification that can then be used to progress onto a higher level course, either at the College or via employment. The practical skills gained also provide great career opportunities.
As a College we are committed to offering all students of any race or gender an equal opportunity to access these programmes.
Attendance at College
The school is required to arrange all transport between school and College. The course will require students to attend College for one day a week. Training will be arranged for the whole day, with short breaks in the morning and for lunch where students can use the student café and refectory. Attendance and punctuality will be an important part of progression on the course and will be monitored.
Support for Students
All students will be expected to work hard to achieve their chosen qualification. They will be taught in small groups and achievement reports will be forwarded to the school, to be included in the regular progress reports that are sent home.
Vocational Programmes
We have a range of programmes available at both our main campus at Brook Street and at our Construction Craft and Engineering Centre at North Farm, Tunbridge Wells.
