Skills For Life
Literacy and Numeracy courses
For adults we have classes for people who want to improve their reading, writing and spelling. If it is using numbers that you want to improve, we have classes that will help you become more confident adding and subtracting and other maths skills. More advanced courses help you learn about using fractions, decimals and percentages. You can get a qualification form these courses to help you get a job or improve your confidence. You can come in the evening or during the day. Please contact Michele on 01732 358101 ext 2502 to arrange a suitable class for you.
Cross College English and Maths
Getting a job in today’s competitive world needs excellent skills and knowledge – both about the industry you are entering and also in literacy and numeracy. If you didn’t do as well as you wanted at school, the courses we offer help you improve your GCSE grade or gain a really useful adult qualification, at Level 1 or Level 2.
We run workshops which you can ‘drop in’ to and work on areas you want to improve. We run courses as part of your vocational qualification. These courses lead to the new Functional Skills qualifications as well as Key or Basic Skills qualifications.
Staff classes
West Kent College is committed to supporting its staff to improve their English and maths skills too so we also have special classes for staff who wish to brush up their skills and get a qualification too. Contact Michele on ext 2502 to book your place.
Outreach/ Community Links
For adults who find it difficult to get to college or prefer to learn out in the community, we run literacy, numeracy, ESOL and IT courses in their workplaces or near their homes. You can improve your own skills and work towards a Level 2 qualification in literacy and/ or numeracy (grade A - C, GCSE equivalent). This is what employers are looking for as a minimum qualification.
Courses run in your local community centre, Sure Start children's centre, school and places of worship. We can also set up new courses near you subject to the minimum number of 8 regular learners. Literacy and numeracy courses are free. You learn at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive environment, with like-minded adults.
